76th Van Mahotsav: Planting Seeds of a Greener Future

76th Van Mahotsav brought the Kansbahal community together to plant 1,000 medicinal trees, promote climate action, and inspire collective care for nature.

On 5 July 2025, Samajik Seva Sadan (SSS) celebrated the 76th Van Mahotsav at Kansbahal village, Bargaon, bringing together villagers, schoolchildren, women, elders and local stakeholders with a shared commitment to environmental protection and climate action.

Mr. Pradeep Bhutia, Forest Ranger, Bargaon, reminded the community that tree plantation is not only a government responsibility but a shared duty of every citizen. SSS Programme Director Mr. Alexander Kerketta highlighted the urgent need for forest conservation and collective action to strengthen the regenerative capacity of local forests.

Adding a personal touch to the celebration, SSS Secretary Mrs. Veronica Dung Dung introduced the theme “A Tree for Mother,” encouraging participants to plant a sapling in honour of their mothers and as a tribute to Mother Earth.

The highlight of the event was the plantation of nearly 1,000 native medicinal saplings across seven acres of land. Community members worked together to plant and nurture the young trees, while village girls also prepared seed balls to support future regeneration.

The programme concluded with an environmental pledge, as participants committed to caring for the planted trees, conserving natural resources and adopting environmentally responsible practices.

The 76th Van Mahotsav was more than a plantation drive—it was a celebration of community action, traditional values and collective responsibility, inspiring people to nurture nature and build a greener, more sustainable future.
