Health & Hygiene

Health & Hygiene

SSS promotes health, hygiene, nutrition, menstrual care, safe housing and WASH practices among PVTG communities, building healthier and resilient households.

The Health Care & Household Wellbeing Programme is designed to improve the overall health, hygiene, and quality of life of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) communities through integrated, community-based interventions. Recognising that health outcomes are closely linked to sanitation, nutrition, menstrual hygiene, and living conditions, the programme adopts a holistic approach that combines awareness generation, behaviour change, and household-level infrastructure support.

Implemented across 10 villages, the programme focuses on promoting safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) practices, improving nutritional knowledge and healthy dietary behaviours, strengthening Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) among adolescent girls and women, and supporting housing improvements to create healthier and safer living environments. Community awareness sessions, practical demonstrations, and active participation of families and local institutions form the foundation of the programme, ensuring that interventions are culturally appropriate and sustainable.

By addressing the underlying determinants of health, the programme seeks to reduce preventable diseases, enhance personal and household hygiene, empower women and adolescent girls, and foster healthier, more resilient communities. Ultimately, it contributes to improved well-being, dignity, and quality of life for vulnerable tribal households while encouraging long-term community ownership of healthy practices.
